Getting to Know Allah: Understanding the Creator in Islam
Allah is the one true God-no one else deserves our worship besides Him. He's unique and perfect in every way, and nothing in creation can compare to Him. Even though we know from the Quran and teachings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that He has qualities like life, knowledge, power, hearing, sight, and more, we can't fully imagine or grasp His essence. We only understand what He allows us to. Subhanallah, Allah existed alone from the very beginning. There was nothing else-no water, no Throne, nothing-as He says in the Quran: 'He is the First.' Then, by His will, He created the Throne, the water, the Pen, and the Preserved Tablet. He also made the seven heavens and seven earths. His Throne is over the water, and He reigns over it in a way that matches His greatness. He wrote everything in the Record and commanded the Pen-which is part of His creation, though we don't know exactly what it is-to write the fate of all things until the Day of Judgment. So the Pen wrote down everything that has happened, will happen, and even what could have been, based on Allah's perfect knowledge. Whatever He wills comes to be, and if He doesn't will it, it doesn't happen. He just says 'Be,' and it is. There's so much more to learn about Allah, insha'Allah.
