As-salamu alaykum, brothers and sisters! A short informal roundup of the day's important events that might be of interest to our ummah.
At the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, with the blessing of the Grand Mufti, the 23rd Moscow International Quran Recitation Competition has begun. In the "Tilawa" category participants from about 30 countries gathered - the best masters of beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran. In his welcoming speech Rushan hazrat passed on good wishes from Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and noted that Moscow has for many years been hosting such guests, turning into a place of spiritual brotherhood and unity during the competition days. The mufti wished all participants success and reminded everyone that the real victory is to live by the Quran and show its light in our deeds. The closing and awards will take place in the concert hall of the Cosmos Hotel, where they’ll also stage a theatrical spiritual production called "The Feat of Faith."
There was also a meeting of the Russian United Union of Evangelical Christians - representatives of the Muslim community, including the Mufti of the Moscow Region Daud hazrat Mukhutdinov and Imam Ilnur hazrat Gainutdinov, took part and sent their greetings. The forum discussed interreligious dialogue, prevention of extremism and youth upbringing - things that matter to all of us.
The Mufti of the Moscow Region and an assistant to the head of the DSMR visited the National Center for Rehabilitation and Support of participants of the SVO. Besides delivering special electric wheelchairs, the spiritual leaders held private talks with wounded servicemen, supported them morally, spoke about patience (sabr), firm faith and mutual help. The fighters and the center’s leadership expressed gratitude for the attention and assistance.
In Volsk they opened a square in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot Mudaris Mustafin. At the ceremony Imam-Mukhtasib Ramil-hazrat Mustafin spoke, reminding people of the importance of knowing your roots and passing history on to the youth. They told about the hero’s life and his feats during the war.
In Tomsk Region a project called the "Discussion Club of Eurasian Youth" is underway - the idea is to bring together traditional religions (Islam and Orthodoxy) to preserve values and counter radicalization. The project got support from the Presidential Grants Fund; there were panel discussions with Islamologists and experts.
In Kazan, October 22–25, the All-Russian symposium "Traditions and Innovations in Muslim Education of Russia" will be held. They expect over 500 participants: religious figures, teachers, scholars and public activists - an important topic for the future of our education.
In the Sverdlovsk village of Azigulovo they laid the first cornerstone for the future mosque - a long-awaited event for the locals. They started with prayers, recitations of ayat, the adhan and prayer at the site of the future House of Allah. The project is being developed by DUM RF, and the local imams sent their best wishes to the village.
In Stavropol there was a working meeting between the Muslim community and law enforcement on security issues, prevention of extremism and preventing interethnic hostility. They agreed to further strengthen joint work to keep peace in the region.
In Astrakhan Mufti Rauf hazrat Dzhantasov received the Consul General of Iran. The sides discussed developing cooperation - both in trade and in the scientific-religious sphere - to strengthen ties between the Muslim ummah of our countries.
In Dagestan the Expert Council on Advertising under the FAS discussed introducing criteria to make advertising materials compliant with Sharia norms and local mentality. The Muftiate is ready to carry out explanatory work and participate in the review - the group’s composition has already been approved.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that medical confirmation via the Nusuk Masar platform is now mandatory to obtain a hajj visa. The goal is pilgrim safety. Certain serious illnesses, late-stage pregnancy and active infections may be grounds for refusal to allow someone to perform the hajj.
In Mecca they announced a large project called the "King Salman Gate" - a huge multifunctional complex next to the Grand Mosque, designed for hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and with plans to preserve the city’s historical heritage.
On the international scene Patriarch Kirill of Moscow again stressed the importance of interreligious dialogue with the Islamic world and reminded everyone of the centuries-long coexistence of Christians and Muslims in Russia, noting that these relations must be cherished.
From a security standpoint the head of the FSB warned of a growing terrorist threat to CIS countries and active online propagation of jihadist ideas. Attempts at recruitment via migration routes and involvement of private military groups were noted - the need for coordinated countermeasures was discussed.
Students took a trip around the districts of Karabakh as part of the "Spiritual Values" week: they visited restored sites, the Juma Mosque in Aghdam, recited ayat in memory of the martyrs and learned about the region’s history.
And lastly - a small note about Samarkand: the city was chosen as the host for another UNESCO session in 2025; it’s an honor and an opportunity for intercultural dialogue.
