As-salamu alaykum - a discussion on the role of Islam in strengthening Russian statehood in Volzhsky
As-salamu alaykum. For the first time in Volzhsky there was a large international forum about the role of Islam in modern Russia, organized by the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia with support from the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education. Almost 90 people took part - theologians, muftis, religious and public figures from 20 regions of the country, as well as guests from Iran, Bahrain, Nigeria and Yemen.
Choosing Volzhsky as the venue was symbolic - the Volgograd region has historically brought Muslims and Orthodox Christians together. The discussion focused on the role of Islamic values in strengthening national unity and social stability. Participants noted that love for the Motherland and willingness to defend it are consistent with the Muslim faith.
The head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, the Mufti of Moscow Albir Krganov, in his speech reminded everyone: “History shows that in difficult wartime periods reliance on the spiritual-moral and patriotic foundations of society, the courage of the people and the heroism of the army helped preserve the country.” He stressed the importance of supporting the course toward the country’s sovereign development.
The mufti also said that the spiritual and moral potential of Islam helps form values at the core of service to the Motherland - patriotism, civic-mindedness, military duty and honor, courage and faith in Allah, readiness for self-sacrifice - and suggested viewing Islam as part of the historical tradition of serving the homeland.
As part of the forum, participants visited Mamayev Kurgan, laid flowers at the “Motherland Calls” monument and honored the memory of the defenders of Stalingrad. An Islamic spiritual and cultural center named after the Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him - also opened in Volzhsky.
The program included a round table “Islam and Virtue: the Spiritual Shield of the Motherland,” where issues of moral upbringing and the spiritual development of society were discussed.
Islam arose in the 7th century and has greatly influenced the history, culture and social development of many peoples. In Arabic “Islam” means submission to the will of Allah. Today the religion has more than a billion followers.
Peace be upon you and the blessings of Allah.
