Amazing Views of Expo City from Space: First Photos from MBZ-Sat and Etihad-Sat Unveiled
As-salamu alaykum! The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre has shared the very first pictures taken by the MBZ-Sat and Etihad-Sat satellites. These stunning photos show famous places in the UAE like Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, Expo City, and Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, all captured from space. The release of these images comes during the special World Space Week 2025, which ends on October 10.
Hamad Al Mansoori, the chairman of MBRSC, said that these pictures reflect the wise leadership and the hard work of our Emirati engineers. By using both optical and radar technology, the UAE is not only fulfilling its own needs but also helping solve important challenges worldwide. This marks an exciting step in the UAE’s journey toward being a leader in space technology and innovation.
MBZ-Sat, the UAE’s most advanced Earth observation satellite, was launched in January and honors our beloved President Sheikh Mohamed. It has been developed by dedicated Emirati engineers since 2020. Then in March, Etihad-Sat was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This radar satellite, weighing 220kg, can monitor the Earth regardless of weather conditions, day or night.
Salem Al Marri, director general of MBRSC, reminded us that these satellites are part of a bigger effort to build strong national capabilities in satellite tech and Earth observation. The new images show our ability to provide advanced and trustworthy data that supports many fields and reflects our promise to create more satellites that benefit both the UAE and the whole world.
