Agricultural Modernization: Jember Govt Pushes Youth to Join Farmer Group Boards
The Jember Regency government is encouraging regeneration in the agricultural sector by inviting young people to join the management of farmer groups. This was conveyed by Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait, who sees that agricultural modernization needs innovation from millennials and Gen Z.
“We’ve instructed the TPHP Office to immediately coordinate with sub-district heads, Gapoktan, and farmer groups. The aim is clear, to bring young people into the management structure,” Fawait said. This policy isn’t about a total overhaul, but rather adding fresh hands so that tech use and applications for farming machinery assistance become more effective.
On top of that, the Regent highlighted the need to boost the ratio of agricultural extension workers, targeting one extension worker per village by 2027. The combo of youth regeneration and optimizing these extension workers is expected to make Jember’s agriculture more modern, adaptive, and robust as a pillar of the region’s food security.
