Aceh Vice Gov and Ulama Council Talk Aligning Mawaris Law Implementation

Aceh Vice Governor Fadhlullah met with the Aceh Ulama Consultative Council (MPU) on Thursday (6/4) in Banda Aceh. The meeting was about the implementation of Islamic inheritance law (mawaris) based on Aceh’s special autonomy status, aiming to sync up understanding and practice in the community. Also present were reps from the Aceh Syar’iyah Court, the Assistant for Aceh Governance and Special Autonomy, and heads of relevant agencies. The discussion zeroed in on how mawaris law is playing out on the ground and why it’s crucial for the MPU and the Syar’iyah Court to be on the same page for the law to be effective and certain. Vice Gov Fadhlullah welcomed this collaboration. “We want everything to go smoothly, in line with Aceh’s special status,” he said. He stressed the need for coordination and common understanding between institutions so that people’s issues can be sorted out without conflicting interpretations.
