Aceh Government and Ulama Meet with BWI Pusat to Secure the Wakaf Status of Blangpadang
The Aceh Government, together with ulama, visited the Central Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The delegation was led by Aceh Vice Governor Fadhlullah, accompanied by the Aceh Secretary's Assistant I and the Grand Imam of Baiturrahman Grand Mosque Abu Paya Pasi, and was welcomed by BWI Central Vice Chairman Dr. Tatang Astarudin. This meeting aimed to clarify the status of Blangpadang Field as waqf land for Baiturrahman Grand Mosque.
Fadhlullah stressed that this visit is an effort to honor the historical trust and preserve the dignity of ancestral heritage. He mentioned that investigations as far as the Netherlands confirmed that Blangpadang, since the Aceh Sultanate era, has been a proud town square and was never a colonial military facility. The people of Aceh hope that legal certainty in the form of an official certificate will soon be realized for the common good.
Dr. Tatang Astarudin appreciated the polite approach of the Aceh Provincial Government and the ulama. He stated that juridically, philosophically, and theologically, the status of the waqf land is very strong. BWI is committed to bridging communication by sending official letters to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to align the administrative process towards the best solution.
