A year on, Israeli positions still hold inside south Lebanon
Visited south Lebanon: Israeli bases that were meant to pull out by Jan 2025 remain and have even been fortified. Lebanese army has increased deployments as Hezbollah withdraws, but daily Israeli raids, air attacks and land destruction continue. Satellite images show bases expanded and land damaged; residents and soldiers report kidnappings, homes blown up and a constant drone threat. Villages like Houla and Khiam stay bleak and partly abandoned; locals say the ceasefire was breached thousands of times and Lebanon can’t complete its plan to secure the south while the positions stay.
