666 Years of Islam in Papua, What's Its Greatest Legacy?
The commemoration of 666 years of Islam in Tanah Papua on August 8, 2026, in Fakfak is a moment to strengthen da'wah, regeneration, education, and unity. Secretary of PWM Papua Barat, Syamsul Inay, emphasized that this number should be interpreted as a noble civilizational legacy, like courteous living, ukhuwah, honest trade, and justice.
Muhammadiyah Papua Barat held Baitul Arqam in Fakfak on July 24–26, 2026, as an effort to strengthen cadres. This activity is expected to produce cadres capable of continuing da'wah and serving the ummah by translating Islamic values according to the challenges of Papuan society.
Chairman of MUI as well as PWM Papua Barat, Mulyadi Djaya, invited everyone to make this moment a future commitment to maintain unity, tolerance, and realize a progressive Islam. Meanwhile, Chairman of PDM Fakfak, Karim Abdul Rohman, mentioned that Muhammadiyah manages seven primary and secondary education institutions as a means to build a knowledgeable and character-driven generation.
This 666-year commemoration is directed so that history is not only remembered, but becomes capital for building the future through education, strong cadres, just economy, and harmonious social life that makes Islam a mercy for all of Papuan society.
