50,000 Pilgrims Pack Istiqlal Mosque for JATMA ASWAJA's National Remembrance
Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta was packed with thousands of worshippers on Sunday afternoon (9/8/2026). They came for the National Safety Prayer, National Remembrance, and Haul of the Founders of the Republic of Indonesia, held by the Central Board of Jamiyah Ahlith Thariqah Al Mu’tabaroh Ahlussunnah Wal jemaah (PB JATMA ASWAJA). The committee estimates more than 50,000 participants from various regions took part.
One group, the Al-Anwar Islamic Study Group from Batang, Central Java, arrived in 14 buses carrying around 700 worshippers. They got there after traveling since 7 a.m. local time and planned to head back right after the event. Traffic around the mosque was busy but still flowing smoothly with police and transportation agency officers on hand.
Secretary General of PB JATMA ASWAJA, KH A. Helmy Faishal Zaini, said the event aimed to strengthen national values and spirituality, as well as pray for the nation’s founders. The event was also attended by national figures, clerics, and President Prabowo Subianto was scheduled to come.
