3-Month-Old Baby in Sidoarjo Lives in Prison with Mom, Here's Why
A three-month-old baby had to stay at the Class IIA Women's Prison in Porong, Sidoarjo, with his mom, VP (19), who got a five-year sentence for a drug case. The baby still needs breastfeeding so he was allowed to stay with her.
VP was handed over to the prison by the Sidoarjo District Attorney on Tuesday (7/14) and went straight through the admission process-admin checks, body search, belongings inspection. Then she was placed in a special room for pregnant inmates and moms with kids to make health monitoring easier.
Acting Head of Surabaya Women's Prison, Widyawati, said kids are allowed to stay until they're three years old, or family can take them earlier if they want. The prison makes sure the child's basic rights, especially health, are taken care of while they're there.
Widyawati also said correctional services aren't just about security-they're also about meeting the needs of vulnerable groups in a human way from day one an inmate comes in.
