26,000 Livestock in Malang Vaccinated Against FMD Ahead of Eid al-Adha
The Malang Regency government, through the Livestock and Animal Health Service (DPKH), continues to ramp up vaccinations against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in livestock in anticipation of Eid al-Adha. So far, around 26,000 heads of livestock, primarily beef and dairy cattle, have received the vaccine. The Acting Head of the Animal Health Division of the DPKH Malang Regency, Lusia Endah Sukesi, stated that the central government has allocated 32,000 vaccine doses for this region.
The vaccine distribution is being carried out in two stages: the first in February 2026 for 16,000 doses, and the second in April 2026 for the same amount, which is still ongoing. The DPKH has deployed 16 vaccination teams spread across 33 sub-districts, each equipped with veterinarians. Vaccination efforts are focused on areas with high beef cattle populations, such as Wajak, Donomulyo, Kalipare, Karangploso, and Kasembon.
In addition to vaccination, the DPKH has increased monitoring of livestock movement to anticipate a higher risk of FMD transmission ahead of Eid al-Adha. Surveillance is conducted through an application accessible to officers. With a total beef cattle population of around 200,000 head, vaccination is prioritized in livestock-dense areas to maximize control of disease spread.
