Dutzende Mönche aus Südoastasien treffen in Jombang ein und wollen Gus Durs Grab besuchen
Dozens of monks from various Southeast Asian countries, part of the Indonesia Walk for Peace 2026 movement, arrived in Jombang Regency on Monday (18/5). Their arrival was warmly welcomed by interfaith and ethnic leaders as a symbol of tolerance in the City of Santri.
Representative of the Jombang Community Communication Forum (FKMJ), Su'udi, stated that the monks' presence carries an international peace mission aligned with the tolerance values of Jombang society. The monks are scheduled to stay overnight at the Jombang Temple before continuing their agenda on Tuesday (19/5), including a shared breakfast and a welcome by Jombang Regent Warsubi at the Regency Pavilion.
The group will then travel to Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School to visit the grave of Indonesia's 4th President KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), a pluralism figure respected across religions. After that, they will head to the southern part of Jombang and stay overnight at Gudo Temple before being handed over to the support team from Nganjuk Regency to continue their journey to Central Java.
Indonesia Walk for Peace 2026 is a spiritual and humanitarian movement in the form of a cross-province walk that started from Bali on May 9 and ends at Borobudur Temple on May 28, 2026, coinciding with the National Vesak celebration.
