West Java Hits the Gas on Building World-Class Halal Tourism
The West Java provincial government is putting Muslim-friendly tourism at the heart of its halal economic development strategy. The program was launched at Jami' At-Thohir Mosque in Depok on Thursday (7/9/2026), aiming to turn West Java into a national religious destination and a player in the global halal tourism industry.
Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan stressed that the Muslim-majority population is a key social asset. The Smiling West Java-Muslim Friendly Tourism (SWJ-MFT) program took first place in 9 categories in 2025 and 12 categories in 2026, showing that its service standards have earned national recognition.
Erwan urged speeding up halal certification for MSMEs to strengthen the halal economic chain. Depok Deputy Mayor Chandra Rahmansyah pointed out that collaboration among all stakeholders is crucial, with a focus on improving the quality of destinations and worship facilities.
The launch positions tourism as a form of halal economic diplomacy. With solid service standards, halal certification, and international promotion, West Java is expected to become a model for globally competitive Muslim-friendly destinations that drive the local economy.
