UAE to step up aid to Sudan as Dr Anwar Gargash urges warring sides to agree to a ceasefire - Salaam
As-salamu alaykum - Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to President Sheikh Mohamed, called on the fighting parties in Sudan to accept a ceasefire and said the UAE will increase its humanitarian support for the country. Speaking at the Government Annual Meetings in Abu Dhabi, he described the situation as very complex, noting the Sudanese Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces and about 30 other militias are involved in the conflict.
He expressed concern for Sudan’s unity after the escalation of violence and the RSF’s control of El Fasher, which has deepened divisions between east and west. Dr Gargash stressed the humanitarian needs: roughly 30 million Sudanese need food and nutrition, nine million are displaced, and many areas face famine, especially in Darfur. He said the war, now in its third year, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions.
Dr Gargash reiterated the UAE’s support for the so-called Quad framework agreed with regional and international partners as the best route to a solution. The document calls for an immediate ceasefire, negotiations between the parties, and a nine-month transition to civilian rule. He asked why anyone would reject a ceasefire given the dire conditions and urged political solutions that lead to civilian governance rather than a return to dictatorship.
He also warned that armed groups are blocking humanitarian access to many areas and appealed for a three-month humanitarian truce to allow aid in. The UAE, he said, remains one of the largest donors to Sudan but faces severe access limits. Dr Gargash condemned atrocities in El Fasher and elsewhere, called for investigations and justice for crimes, and concluded that neither side can achieve a decisive military victory.
May Allah ease the suffering of the Sudanese people and grant a peaceful, just resolution. Please remember those affected in your duas.
