Tsunami Detected in Baubau and Bulukumba after M7.7 Earthquake in NTT
BMKG reported a tsunami was detected in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi, and Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi, after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake shook Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Saturday morning (15/8/2026).
The tsunami wave in Baubau was recorded at 0.30 meters at 05:47 WIB, while in Bulukumba it was detected at 05:58 WIB with a height of 0.54 meters. Earlier, tsunamis were also detected in Labuan Bajo (0.36 m), Sikka (0.19 m), Dompu (0.17 m), Bakalang, Alor (0.14 m), East Flores (0.25 m), Maurole-Ende (0.94 m), and Kewapante Port-Sikka (0.38 m).
BMKG has issued a tsunami early warning for several areas in NTT, NTB, South Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi. People in affected areas are urged to remain alert, follow official information from BMKG and local authorities, and move away from the coast immediately if evacuation instructions are given.
