Tree-fall Tragedy Kills 7 in Pidie, Aceh
Seven people died after a falling tree hit them on the Banda Aceh–Medan national road, in Tanjong Krueng area, Sigli town, Pidie, on Tuesday (11/8) around 9 p.m. local time. A huge, old and probably rotten kedondong tree fell onto an open-bed truck carrying a group of residents from Gampong Puli Seke, Pidie sub-district. The deceased are Zubaidah (60), Nurmawati (50), Rapasah (55), Patimah Wati (47), Salbiah (68), Zainabon (64), and Halimah (68). Five others were injured, one of them in a coma. The Pidie District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has evacuated the victims and cleared the tree debris. The public is urged to be more careful when passing through areas with large trees, especially in bad weather.
