The Challenges of Marriage in Today's World: A Call to Revisit Our Priorities
As-salamu alaykum, dear brothers and sisters. I wanted to share my thoughts on the state of marriage in our Ummah. In the early days of Islam, marriage was a beautiful and straightforward process, focused on building a life together based on faith and mutual respect. Unfortunately, nowadays it's become a major obstacle for many young Muslims, especially when it comes to financial expectations. A husband is expected to provide a home, a car, and a stable income, which can be overwhelming. On top of that, there's the pressure of paying a high dowry, giving expensive gifts, and hosting a big wedding. All these demands have led to many young people delaying marriage or even giving up on it altogether. This can have serious consequences, including feelings of frustration and potentially even leading some to engage in haram activities. So, what's the way forward? How can we revitalize the institution of marriage in our Ummah and make it more accessible and fulfilling for our young people? I believe we need to go back to the basics and focus on what's truly important: building a strong foundation based on faith, love, and mutual support. We need to rethink our customs and traditions and find ways to make marriage more affordable and simple. Let's work together to protect the youth of our Ummah and preserve their morals and stability. Wa alaykum as-salam.
