Teachers' Struggle in Coastal Sidoarjo Gets Spotlight, Commission D Pushes for 3x Incentive Hike
Commission D chair Dhamroni Chudlori of the Sidoarjo DPRD is pushing the local government to look into raising incentives up to three times for teachers working in remote areas. This came up during an impromptu visit to SDN Kupang 4 in Jabon District, where he saw firsthand the challenges teachers face, like busted roads and lacking facilities.
On top of incentives, Dhamroni also wants a transportation allowance reviewed since the road conditions wear out teachers' vehicles faster. He gave an example of an incentive that was originally Rp500 thousand bumping up to Rp1.5 million, and stressed the need for supporting regulations.
Dhamroni assured teachers they shouldn't hesitate to voice their concerns, because the DPRD is ready to act as a bridge. Commission D will also coordinate with Commission C and the Fisheries Office to fix road access, and push for the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) to be prioritized in the 3T regions.
He emphasized that a small student headcount is no excuse to cut back on education services. Commission D is committed to overseeing policies that favor teachers and remote schools for the sake of equal education across Sidoarjo.
