Tahajjud Prayer 4 Rakaats: Intention, Procedure, and Supplication
Tahajjud prayer is a highly recommended sunnah worship. Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Isra verse 79 which encourages Muslims to perform it during part of the night. This worship can be done starting from two rakaats, but it can also be done as four rakaats without the first tashahhud, similar to Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha prayers.
The intention for four-rakaat tahajjud prayer is "Ushalli sunatattahajjudi arba'a raka'aatin lillahi ta'ala" which means "I intend to pray the sunnah tahajjud four rakaats for the sake of Allah Ta'ala". The procedure includes reciting the intention, takbiratul ihram, iftitah supplication, Surah Al-Fatihah, a short surah, bowing, rising, prostrating, and salam. In the second rakaat, you stand straight up for the third and fourth rakaats without the first tahiyat.
After the prayer, it is recommended to recite the supplication taught by Prophet Muhammad SAW, narrated by Imam Bukhari and Muslim. The supplication contains praise to Allah, acknowledgment of the truth of His promise, paradise, hell, the prophets, and the Day of Judgment, as well as a request for forgiveness for all sins.
