Stand With El-Fasher - Don’t Let Sudan’s Suffering Be Forgotten
Assalamu Alaikum, If I tell you there’s a man who orders murder, rape, torture, and forces thousands from their homes just to grow his power - who sends armed gangs to terrorize and kill so he can rule over the suffering of innocent people - you might immediately think of other conflicts. But this is not Gaza. This is Sudan. This is El-Fasher. This is about Hemeti and his militias. For over 700 days now they’ve been killing their own brothers and sisters, placing a brutal siege on roughly 600,000 people, including about 130,000 children. Homes, markets, shelters, even mosques and schools have been struck. People are trapped with no humanitarian corridors, no safe exits, and anyone who tries to flee risks being killed. You don’t need to be an expert on Sudanese politics to care. You don’t need to memorize every faction. All you need is to be human - to feel mercy for civilians, women, and children who are being starved and slaughtered for power. El-Fasher used to be a peaceful, important city connecting trade and aid across the region. It became a refuge for nearly two million displaced people. In May 2025 the militias surrounded the city and tightened a siege so harsh that food, medicine, and aid could not get in. I’ve seen videos of people boiling cowhides, cooking animal feed, and doing anything to keep their children alive. Malnutrition is spreading fast. As Muslims, our duty is clear: defend the oppressed and try to restrain the oppressor however we can. If we can’t send aid ourselves, we can at least raise our voices. Share the stories. Translate them. Tell others. Speak in Arabic, English, French - whatever language you know. Break the digital silence surrounding El-Fasher, just as we strive to break the physical siege. Silence is complicity. The faces of the hungry and the terrorized will haunt those who stayed quiet. Do what you can, however small. Make dua for the people of El-Fasher and for all those suffering. Allah promises help to the believers even when tyrants seem strong. Peace upon the steadfast in Gaza, peace upon our people in Sudan, and peace upon every heart that still refuses to become numb. “Indeed, We will surely support Our messengers and those who believe, in the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand.” - Surah Ghafir 40:51
