South Korea Hit by Heatwave up to 37 Degrees Celsius

Most of South Korea is getting slammed by a heatwave, with daytime temps hitting 37 degrees Celsius. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is predicting heavy rain up to 100 mm on the east coast and in the mountains of Gangwon, plus up to 40 mm in Seoul and central areas. Temps drop a bit when it rains, but then they shoot back up again. Officials have cut back or suspended some driving tests to keep people from getting sick from the heat. Government data shows an average of 638 heat-related illnesses per year from 2021 to 2025, which is almost three times the 215 cases from 2011 to 2015. In 2024, 1,299 people were affected and 12 died.
