Smuggling of 21 Green Turtles from Madura Foiled in Buleleng, Bali

Police foiled the smuggling of 21 green turtles on the shores of Pegametan Beach, Sumberkima Village, Gerokgak, Buleleng, Bali, on Wednesday night (10/6/2026). A suspect with the initials KS (67) was nabbed along with the protected animals. AKBP Nanang Pri Hasmoko, Head of the Gakkum Sub-directorate of the Bali Police's Ditpolairud, said this bust came from a tip-off from the public who were suspicious of the illegal activity. The green turtles were allegedly sent by Iwan (30) from the waters off Madura, and were going to be resold by KMG (35). The other two perpetrators are now on the wanted list. Evidence seized includes 21 live turtles and a cellphone. The suspect is charged under Article 40A of Law No. 32/2024 on the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources, which carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and hefty fines.
