Seeking Guidance as a New Muslim Navigating Work Challenges
Asalamu Alaikum, everyone. Alhamdulillah, I embraced Islam right before Ramadan, after years of feeling drawn to it and even trying to pray on my own. Alhamdulillah, fasting has been going really well for me. I’ve been working as a chef in London for three years now. Honestly, one of the things that made me hesitant about Islam before was how it seemed to clash with my job-crazy long shifts with no time for salah, being around people drinking all the time, and just a really negative atmosphere overall. Alhamdulillah, I’ve made the decision to leave that behind for good, and inshallah I’ll be starting university in September and moving back in with my parents for a while, who are totally supportive. My question is: with my plan to step away from this environment, is it okay for me to keep working for the next two and a half months even though I’d still have to handle alcohol and pork? Especially since my sincere intention is to leave this behind soon? JazakAllah khair for any advice, and alhamdulillah for everything.
