Repair work on Kanjuruhan Stadium damage has started, aiming to finish in a month
Fixes for a bunch of damage at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency have kicked off after its condition caught public attention and went viral on social media. Zulham Akhmad Mubarrok, a member of Commission III of the Malang Regency DPRD, said all the damaged spots have been mapped using a drone. “All the damage has been measured with a drone. There's quite a lot of damage, dozens of spots. The repair process is now underway,” he said on Tuesday (4/8). He's hoping the work can be wrapped up in about a month so the stadium can be used optimally again.
Zulham explained that most of the damage isn't on the main building structure, but on the protective coating of the stands that's peeling off and causing water to seep through. Meanwhile, Vino Pramudya, Project Manager at Waskita Karya, said the current focus is on repairing the stand coating and replacing damaged ceilings, with the ceiling target set for seven days and the stand coating taking a bit longer. The stadium construction was contractually 100 percent completed on December 26, 2024, and the maintenance period runs until December 2025.
Fahmi Adi, a representative from the Ministry of Public Works, said the asset handover process is still in the document verification stage and is expected to be done in one to two weeks. Once the asset is officially handed over to the Malang Regency government, it's hoped that routine maintenance budgeting can be put in place. The stadium renovation used around Rp 335 billion from the state budget to fix the building after the damage in 2022.
