Prayer and Procedure for Cutting a Baby's Hair in Islam
In Islam, the birth of a child is recommended to be accompanied by sunnah practices like aqiqah and shaving the baby's hair as an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT. Based on a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, on the seventh day, the aqiqah animal is slaughtered, the baby's hair is shaved, and the child is given a name.
This procession is accompanied by prayers, such as prayers when shaving the hair, blowing on the crown, and the walimah al-‘aqiqah prayer, asking for blessings and protection for the child. The main time for doing it is on the seventh day, but it can be delayed if not yet able. Baby boys are recommended to be shaved bald, while girls just need a trim.
