Prabowo Wants to Cut Hajj Queue, Aims to Push Waiting Time Down to 26 Years
President Prabowo Subianto has asked for the hajj departure queue in Indonesia to be gradually shortened, from the current 30–40 years to around 26 years. This directive came after he received an evaluation report from the Chair of the House’s 2026 Hajj Supervisory Team, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, in Hambalang, Bogor, on Wednesday (18/6/2026).
During the meeting, they also talked about improving hajj services, including departure mechanisms, immigration systems, and better facilities. This year’s hajj season, around 17,000 regular pilgrims got five-star hotel accommodations near the Grand Mosque. The food quality has also improved, with more varied menus.
The president stressed the need to maintain and boost these improvements, and to quickly fix any shortcomings. He said the success of the hajj operation really depends on cross-sector communication and coordination.
