Police Arrest 2 People Linked to Viral Quran Memorization Challenge with Alcohol Reward
North Jakarta Metro Police have arrested two people in connection with a Quran memorization challenge that offered alcohol as a reward at The Sounds Project music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta. The two suspects, a woman with the initial R and a man with the initial E, are still being questioned.
Acting North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Oki Waskito said legal proceedings will continue according to regulations, including the possibility of naming suspects within the next 24 hours. Police also haven't ruled out expanding the case to other parties.
Earlier, Jakarta Metropolitan Police were investigating possible religious blasphemy related to the incident. Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iman Imanuddin said the suspects are believed to be festival-goers who spontaneously grabbed the mic and issued the challenge. Festival management and related parties have been questioned.
