Paraguay's national team booked their spot in the 2026 World Cup round of 16 after edging out Germany in a penalty shootout at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, in the early hours of Tuesday (6/30/2026) WIB. The two sides were deadlocked at 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Julio Enciso put Paraguay ahead with a header in the 42nd minute, but Kai Havertz equalized in the 54th. The score stayed 1-1 through the end of extra time, even though a German goal by Jonathan Tah was ruled out by VAR for a foul.
In the penalty shootout, Paraguay won 4-3 after Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade missed their kicks, and Jose Canale slotted home the winner. Paraguay move on to the next round, ending Germany's run in the tournament.
