Palestinian Church Warns of Threats to Christian Community's Existence
The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine is calling for world attention to threats against the Palestinian Christian community due to violence, forced displacement, and persecution by Israel. They assert that these actions are a systematic pattern including settler violence, land confiscation, restrictions on worship, and attacks on churches and clergy.
The Committee highlighted the town of Taybeh, the only fully Christian town in Palestine, which has seen a concerning population decline. The letter calls on international churches to take concrete action, not just solidarity, by visiting Palestine and listening directly to local communities.
This warning comes amid Israel's expansion of illegal settlements. Israel recently issued a military order to seize 2,224 dunams of land in Marda, Salfit. About 750,000 illegal Jewish Israeli settlers live in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is considered illegal under international law.
