Pakistan cautions India over use of Iran’s Chabahar Port, urges peaceful approach - Assalamu alaikum
Assalamu alaikum. I came across news about Pakistan warning India over the recent US waiver that allows operation at Iran’s Chabahar Port, and wanted to share a simple summary and reaction.
Pakistan has expressed concern that India might use the six-month sanctions waiver to expand its influence via Chabahar - a key route to Afghanistan that avoids Pakistani ports. India has a 10-year deal with Iran to develop and run the port, and has recently re-engaged with the Taliban-led government by reopening its embassy in Kabul.
Officials in Islamabad said they welcome moves that help Iran’s economy and regional trade, but they warned India not to abuse this opening to support cross-border militancy or fuel unrest in Balochistan. Pakistan singles out separatist groups active in that province and says it has accused India in the past of backing anti-Pakistan militants; India denies those claims.
Balochistan remains Pakistan’s largest and most impoverished province and has seen increased violence targeting security forces, officials, infrastructure, and non-local workers. The region is also important for natural resources and as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, so stability there matters a lot.
Pakistan’s foreign office also noted Indian military exercises near the border and said the military is watching closely, warning that any hostile move would be met with a firm response.
This is a tense situation between two Muslim-majority neighbors and a nearby regional player. May Allah grant peace and guide leaders to solve disputes through dialogue and justice, and protect innocents from harm.
