NU Executive Board Staff Skips KPK Summons for Hajj Quota Case Investigation
On Tuesday (4/21), Syaiful Bahri, a staff member of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), skipped a summons from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to be examined as a witness in the alleged corruption case regarding the additional 2023-2024 hajj quota. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that investigators will reschedule the questioning as the witness's testimony is considered crucial for deepening the case.
The KPK has named four individuals as suspects, including former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, his special staffer Ishfah Abidal Aziz, as well as two parties from hajj and umrah travel companies: Asrul Azis Taba (Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama) and Ismail Adham (Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja). This case relates to a violation of Law Number 8 of 2019, which limits the special hajj quota to a maximum of 8 percent of the national total, with irregularities in the distribution of the additional quota.
The KPK suspects this corruption has caused state losses amounting to Rp 622 billion, which remains the primary focus of the ongoing investigation.
