NTB Government Prepares Social Mediation Guidelines to Prevent Interfaith Marriage Conflicts
The NTB Provincial Government is pushing for the drafting of social mediation guidelines to resolve disputes arising from interfaith marriages and prevent social conflict. This commitment was conveyed by the Head of NTB's Bakesbangpoldagri, Surya Bahari, during an FGD held by NTB's FKUB in Mataram on Friday (8/7).
Surya stressed that the issue is complex because it involves religious norms, law, customs, and social life, so it needs to be resolved through dialogue and deliberation. So far, similar disputes in NTB have generally been settled by involving religious leaders, community figures, and officials without going through litigation.
The Chair of NTB's FKUB, TGH. Subki Sasaki, mentioned that each year there are about four to five reported cases of interfaith marriage, though the actual number is believed to be higher. FKUB facilitates dialogue and mediation to keep the issues from escalating into social conflict.
Head of NTB's Kominfo Office, Ahsanul Halik, proposed the formation of a Social Mediation Forum focused on peaceful conflict resolution without discussing the validity of the marriage. He emphasized that the government must act as a facilitator to maintain security and interfaith harmony.
