NTB DPRD Chair Pushes "Land of a Thousand Protections" Movement for Safe Islamic Boarding Schools
NTB DPRD Chair Baiq Isvie Rupaeda voiced concern over cases of violence against students at Islamic boarding schools in NTB. She stressed that this moment should be a starting point for fixing the child protection system in residential educational settings. Criticism, she said, is a form of care so that pesantren remain safe places for learning.
Isvie pushed for a thorough audit of residential pesantren, covering supervision, caregiver-to-student ratios, complaint mechanisms, and areas prone to violence. She proposed a Santri Protection Task Force involving guardians, psychologists, and related agencies. Handling of suspected violence must be a maximum of 1x24 hours.
She called for a moral movement of "Safe Pesantren, Dignified Santri" with child-friendly complaint channels, anti-violence etiquette education, and a Child-Friendly Pesantren Index. Government assistance should be linked to child protection commitments. Victim recovery must include psychological support and education guarantees.
Isvie invited all parties to make NTB a "Land of a Thousand Protections", with a strong child protection system. "The Land of a Thousand Mosques must level up to become the Land of a Thousand Protections," she said.
