MAN 2 Makassar Proves Islamic Schools Can Produce Southeast Asian Karate Champions
A student from State Islamic Senior High School (MAN) 2 Makassar, Zahadia Al Muhammadi, won first place at the 13th South East Asian Karate Federation (SEAKF) Championship 2026 in Ninh Binh, Vietnam, July 9–12, 2026. This achievement shows that Islamic schools can groom internationally accomplished athletes by balancing academics, character, spirituality, and talent development.
The competition drew around 700 athletes from 11 member countries. Zahadia's gold medal success confirms that Islamic schools don't just excel in religious education, but also adapt well to developing students' potential in sports, arts, research, and technology.
The principal of MAN 2 Makassar, Darmawati, expressed her pride and hopes this accomplishment inspires other students to compete on a global stage. At the same time, this success shatters the notion that Islamic schools are only focused on religious learning.
