Making a Muslim Student Feel at Home
As-salamu alaykum! Hope everyone's doing well. So, I've just bought my first house here in the beautiful South West of England, and I've signed up to host foreign students learning English. Basically, I provide a room, meals, and laundry-and get paid for it by the language school. I found out today there's a good chance my first guest will be a brother from the Middle East (lots of students come from places like Saudi Arabia on government scholarships). I really want to make him feel welcome and comfortable, insha'Allah. Here's what I'm thinking: * No pork, alcohol, or drugs in the house (already normal for me). * Any meat will be halal. * I won't play music out loud, especially anything inappropriate (not really a music person anyway). * He'll have a clean, quiet spot to pray, either in his room or the living room. * Might put a Quran in his room, though he'll probably have his own. * Just generally be respectful and kind-I try to be anyway. * I'll show him where the local masjid is. * Thought about installing a simple bidet attachment-heard that's preferred over toilet paper. * No bringing women or strangers over (again, normal for me). * My living room needs some decor (typical single guy style, haha), so maybe something tasteful. Am I missing anything obvious? If you were a Muslim guest studying English in a new country, what would make your stay better? Jazakallahu khayran for any advice!
