Koh Dennis Lim Hurt Seeing Quran Memorization Challenge with Alcohol Prize
Preacher Dennis Lim Setiawan, or Koh Dennis Lim, highlighted the viral video of a Surah Ad-Duha memorization challenge with an alcoholic drink prize. He admitted he was hurt to see the Quran being associated with alcohol promotion.
Dennis considered this incident a slap in the face for da'wah efforts. He hopes the public truly understands the position of the Quran as a guide for life, so that no ideas emerge of combining memorization of holy verses with alcohol promotion.
He invited the community to act according to their capacity, such as preaching for those who have followers, and asked the authorities to enforce regulations. However, he reminded that anger should not give birth to new sins.
Dennis also saw wisdom behind this polemic, namely that more people are returning to reading and reflecting on Surah Ad-Duha. He hopes this event becomes a momentum to draw closer to the Quran.
