Israeli Settlers Enter Al-Aqsa Complex and Raise Israeli Flag, Condemnations from Pakistan and Qatar
On Tuesday (21/4) local time, a number of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem through the Mughrabi Gate under tight Israeli police escort. According to reports from Anadolu Agency and Doha News on Wednesday (22/4/2026), they raised the Israeli flag and performed religious rituals inside the complex, including in the eastern area.
The Islamic Waqf authority in Jerusalem described this action as a violation of the long-standing status quo at the holy site. Circulating video shows the group of settlers praying at the location.
Pakistan and Qatar strongly condemned the incident. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the actions constitute a violation of international law as well as the sanctity and inviolability of the holy site. An official statement denounced the incursion and the raising of the Israeli flag at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex.
