Iran Proxy Groups Strike Saudi Oil Facilities Amid US-Iran War Pause
Iran-backed proxy armed groups in the Middle East launched drone and missile attacks on several Saudi Arabian oil facilities on Monday (July 27, 2026). Saudi Arabia managed to intercept some drones targeting facilities in the eastern province and the Riyadh area.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said it reserves the right to respond to the attacks, which are suspected to have been carried out by Iran-backed groups based in Iraq. Separately, Yemen's Houthi group also claimed to have attacked Saudi crude oil transportation infrastructure, though it's still unclear if these incidents were coordinated.
The attacks come as the United States and Iran have halted tit-for-tat strikes, with mediators Pakistan and Qatar saying the chances for negotiations are improving. Yet, Iran's proxy groups remain active in attacking Saudi Arabia and other countries, including Jordan and Iraq, which reported drone incidents on the same day.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi stressed that Iraq will not allow its territory to be used to attack neighboring countries, while investigating Saudi allegations that the drones were launched from Iraq. This widening conflict raises new concerns about regional stability even as the US-Iran war de-escalates.
