Iran Claims It Shot Down US MQ-9 Drone and Forced F-35 Jets Out
Iran is claiming it managed to shoot down a US MQ-9 spy drone and forced stealth F-35 fighter jets to leave its airspace. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they took action after the US violated Iranian airspace in the Persian Gulf area. The IRGC also mentioned their air defense systems successfully drove off an RQ-4 attack drone.
The IRGC stressed that Iran has the legitimate right to retaliate against any violations and warned of a harsh response if the US does it again. Earlier, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced strikes on southern Iran on Monday (5/25/2026) targeting missile launch facilities and ships suspected of laying mines, citing the need to protect US forces.
The US strikes happened near Bandar Abbas, where Iran's Navy base is located along the Strait of Hormuz. This incident has sparked new tensions amid the ceasefire, and there are worries it could mess up the peace process.
