Indonesian House Deputy Speaker Stresses Need to Settle Honorary Teacher Arrangement Before New Recruitment
House Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal is pushing the government to sort out the honorary teacher situation before opening new recruitment. This step is crucial so that the national teacher needs match the actual conditions and don't create new problems. Right now, the government is still mapping teacher needs by taking inventory of the number of schools, including evaluating school mergers. The mapping results will be the basis for deciding how many teachers are needed across Indonesia.
Cucun emphasized the importance of synergy between the central and regional governments in resolving the status of honorary teachers recruited in the regions. Once the teacher needs are confirmed, the government can determine the appointment mechanism, whether through PPPK selection or other schemes. "We have to maintain this governance, don't let one problem be solved and another pop up," he said.
The PKB politician explained that after the mapping is done, selection will be carried out so that there won't be any more honorary status if it matches the need. The mapping results will also serve as the basis for budgeting in the 2027 State Budget. "We're waiting for a decision until the end of July. If recruitment has to happen now, the budget will be set aside in the Fiscal Policy Agency for the 2027 State Budget," he concluded.
Previously, the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education opened the Teacher Professional Education Selection for Prospective Teachers 2026. Registration runs from June 27 to July 25 through the official PPG website.
