Hundreds of Gresik First-Wave Hajj Pilgrim Candidates Depart for the Holy Land
The Gresik Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Communication Forum) dispatched 376 hajj pilgrim candidates (group 46) to the Holy Land on Saturday night (2/5). The farewell ceremony in the Gresik Regent's Office courtyard was also attended by Deputy Regent Asluchul Alif, who is joining as a regular pilgrim. The pilgrims wore blue batik uniforms with black veils and yellow and green shawls.
The Head of the Gresik Ministry of Religious Affairs Office for Hajj and Umrah, Lulus, stated that the total number of hajj pilgrims from Gresik this year reached 2,674 people. This figure comes from 2,847 candidates who paid their Hajj fees (Bipih), with adjustments due to transfers and several factors such as postponements and deaths.
In his address, the Gresik Regent reminded the pilgrims to maintain their physical and mental health, while the local government had prepared support in the form of medicines, vitamins, and wheelchair facilities. Gresik Police Chief AKBP Ramadhan Nasution ensured optimal security with 95 personnel, while also urging vigilance regarding belongings. The event concluded with the symbolic presentation of medicine, prayers led by the Chairman of the Gresik MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council), and the recitation of the talbiyah accompanying the departure of the buses.
