Hotman Paris 911 Highlights Non-Detention of Suspects in Burnt Santri Case in Central Lombok, Calls on DPR RI to Intervene
The legal advisory team of Hotman Paris 911 has questioned why two suspects haven't been detained yet in the case of three santri being burned at an Islamic boarding school in Central Lombok. Team spokesperson Putri Maya Rumanti raised this during a meeting with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday (13/7). She argued that the decision not to detain the suspects-both the boarding school head, identified as MR (55), and the juvenile suspect, identified as AMR (15)-has wounded the victims' families' sense of justice.
Putri conveyed the families' disappointment, feeling that the police seemed to be siding with the suspects. She questioned the reason for not detaining the school head on health grounds, given that the potential sentence is over five years. The legal team also suspects there was bullying that had previously been reported to the boarding school administrators, but the investigation seems to have fallen short.
The legal team is asking Commission III to urge the National Police Chief to deploy the internal affairs division and have the NTB Police or Police Headquarters take over the case. So far, there has been no official response from the NTB Police.
