Habagat Storm in the Philippines Kills 8, Affects 486,000 Residents

The southwest monsoon Habagat, which intensified along with tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, left eight people dead and one missing in the Philippines, according to a government report on Sunday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said around 486,000 residents were affected by heavy rain and flooding. Seven others were injured in Benguet because of landslides and accidents. Flooding and landslides hit a number of regions, with 119 evacuation centers still operating, housing thousands of evacuees. Infrastructure damage is estimated at 105.5 million pesos (around Rp30.95 billion) and agricultural losses reached 3.5 million pesos (about Rp1.02 billion).
