Gus Yaqut Detained Again by KPK After Recovering from Surgery
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) moved former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (Gus Yaqut) back to the KPK Detention Center on Thursday night, July 9, 2026. The transfer took place after the medical team at Kramat Jati Police Hospital declared he had recovered from gastrointestinal surgery.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said Gus Yaqut has been declared healthy enough to continue the legal process. Investigators are now focused on completing the case file on alleged corruption in the 2023-2024 Hajj quota before handing it over to prosecution.
In this case, the KPK has also named two suspects from the private sector, Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba. Both are suspected of involvement in requesting additional special Hajj quotas exceeding the 8 percent limit, as well as giving money to several officials. Maktour Travel and Asrul's related company allegedly earned illegal profits of around Rp27.8 billion and Rp40.8 billion respectively in 2024.
