East Java Vice Gov Highlights HIV/AIDS Prevention in Sidoarjo, Stresses Early Education
East Java Vice Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak highlighted the high number of HIV/AIDS cases in Sidoarjo, with cumulative data of 7,230 cases up to June 2026 since first discovered in 2001. He stressed that handling must involve families, schools, and the community, not just health services. Emil pushed for reproductive health education from an early age as a defense against risky behaviors, while still strengthening the character and moral values of the younger generation. Additionally, he urged all parties to eliminate stigma against People with HIV (ODHIV) so they can still receive proper services and support. In Sidoarjo, 53 students are recorded as living with HIV, emphasizing the need for family assistance and character building to break the chain of transmission.
