Dieng Farmers Carve Out a Hajj Story for 2026: 42 Family Members Heading Off Together Without Any Planning
A total of 42 farmers from the extended Bani Sawijaya family in Karangtengah Village, Batur District, Banjarnegara, are heading on the Hajj together in 2026. They're part of Group 71 from the Solo Embarkation (SOC). What's unique is that this departure happened without any joint planning; each one registered separately back in 2012–2013 and only found out when they got the call and started the pre-Hajj orientation.
All the family members work as potato and vegetable farmers in the Dieng area. They saved up for the Hajj bit by bit from their harvests over many years. They also kept their intentions pure by not announcing their registration to avoid showing off.
Out of the 53 Hajj pilgrims from Karangtengah Village, 42 come from the Bani Sawijaya family. Even though they're used to Dieng's cold temperatures that can drop to minus 2 degrees Celsius, they've adapted well to Mecca's heat hitting 47 degrees Celsius thanks to the physical stamina from farming work.
This story is an inspiration about struggle, patience, and sincerity in answering the call to Hajj, showing that the spiritual journey can be achieved through hard work and responsible management of blessings.
