Can the UAE Qualify for Football and Cricket World Cups in the Same Week? | Insha'Allah!
As-salamu alaykum! While many in the UAE are excited about our national football team’s journey to the 2026 World Cup in Doha, our cricket team is also aiming for a spot in their own World Cup next year. Coach Cosmin Olaroiu’s football squad will face Oman and Qatar in Doha soon. If they top their group, they’ll secure their place at the World Cup in North America. Meanwhile, the cricket team, led by Lalchand Rajput, is competing in a qualifying tournament at the Oman Cricket Academy near Muscat. The T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka, and the UAE is hopeful to participate. The qualifier includes teams from Asia and East Asia Pacific regions, with nine teams divided into three groups. The top two from each group move on to the Super Six, and the best three teams from there will qualify for the World Cup. Our group includes UAE, Malaysia, and Qatar. Players like Muhammad Waseem, Junaid Siddique, and Mohammad Rohid have shown great promise recently, with memorable performances and strong bids in professional leagues. The matches are coming up on October 8 and 10, with the Super Six phase running from October 12-17. Though the UAE is ranked the highest and is a favorite, strong competition comes from teams like Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa. It’s inspiring to see how our teams represent the UAE on such big stages, in sha’Allah bringing pride to our nation and the Ummah. Let’s keep them in our duas as they compete with dedication and sportsmanship.
