Assalamualaikum - Power Cuts Hit Thousands After Overnight Attacks in Ukraine’s Frontline Region
Assalamualaikum. Nearly 60,000 people were left without electricity after an overnight air assault on the Zaporizhzhia frontline region, and authorities say two people were killed in the southern Odesa area. With winter approaching, missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s power infrastructure have increased, causing widespread outages and forcing emergency teams to rush to repair damage and manage rolling blackouts.
The regional governor, Ivan Fedorov, reported on messaging channels that the strike on Zaporizhzhia wounded two people and reduced some buildings to rubble. He said crews will restore electricity as soon as the security situation permits, and shared nighttime photos showing buildings with facades and windows torn away.
Zaporizhzhia faces near-daily artillery, missile and drone attacks that have destroyed homes, damaged utilities and killed many people, as those attacking try to weaken defenses and cut connections between the south and the rest of the country. Over a 24-hour period, Fedorov said about 800 strikes hit 18 settlements in the region, causing one death and three injuries.
In Odesa, the state emergency service reported two deaths following an overnight drone strike on the Black Sea coast. Separately, the acting governor of Dnipropetrovsk said the death toll rose to four after a shop was set on fire in an air attack, including two boys aged 11 and 14. There was no immediate response from the attackers.
