Assalamu alaikum. Iraq has said it will not allow third countries to use its land or airspace to take part in regional conflicts. This was reported by Iraq’s security adviser Qasim al-Araji after talks with the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, in Tehran. “Iraq under no circumstances will allow its territory or skies to be used as a threat to Iran or other neighboring countries,” he stressed. According to him, Baghdad intends to stick to security agreements with Tehran.
In August, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Iraq and Iran to strengthen coordination along the shared border to improve security. “The Government of Iraq is working to bolster stability in the region and prevent escalations that could undermine security,” al-Araji added.
He also noted that Iraq filed an official complaint with the UN Security Council regarding the use of its airspace for the attack on Tehran on June 13.
Developing the partnership with Iran, the adviser said, is largely driven by a desire to strengthen economic ties. “The main topic of our talks is expanding economic cooperation. For our economic relations to be stable, it’s necessary to strengthen cooperation in the field of security,” he said.
